Population

221 residents in 16 Australian residential aged-care facilities, subject to the study's eligibility criteria.

Intervention

A supervised progressive resistance and balance programme, followed by a maintenance phase, compared with usual care.

Interpretation & limitations

Results apply to the studied residents and programme. Eligibility exclusions and supervision matter; this is not a guarantee of falls prevention for every person or facility. The paper discloses in-kind HUR equipment support.

Relevance to HUR

HUR resistance equipment was used within the trial programme. Balance work and supervision were also part of the intervention.
